Rain!!!

I'm sure the above is a 4-letter word for those of you who have been going through the hurricanes, but we in the west, particularly in the fire regions, have been praying for it.

It has been 3 solid months with no precipitation.

The Forest Service indicated that the trees in our forests here have a lower moisture content than kiln-dried lumber. No wonder the fires have been so difficult to rein in.

We had a sprinkle yesterday, and this morning awoke to the glorious sound of a steady rain! And although we have grey skies, at least I know they are clouds and not the everlasting smoke from the fires.

Rain in the forecast through Saturday! This should greatly help the firefighting efforts.

It is scary when the rain just stops and everything just gets more and more dry. Enjoy the smell of rain!

I'm so glad you got rain! I live in Northern California and we've gotten a few sprinkles, but nothing much. The rainy season will be here soon...assuming we get rain again this year.

Where is the rain? Bring it our way! We had a few sprinkles last week, but hoping for more maybe starting Sunday. It can't come soon enough!

I saw pictures of my friend's resort/campground. The grass is brown and crunchy. The had a wedding there the other day. I guess ash was raining down on the wedding party and guests. I hope they get the rain they need to at least freshen the place up a little.

...and now frost warning!

First it was a glorious day of rain - granted, on and off, but mostly on.

And now, we are getting a frost warning, so my husband helped me cover the tomatoes after we picked all we could.

My daughter took a whole peach box of tomatoes (at least 22 lbs) down to our primary residence and will wash and freeze them for when we have time to make salsa.

Oh my --- autumn coming in less than 24 hours! A strange year indeed!

Yesterday evening I was running some errands and it actually felt cool. I thought, "Oh boy! Autumn is coming!" I'm always ready for cozy nights, chili, soup, and then by summer I'm anxious for long days, salads, and ice tea. Good thing God gave us seasons!!!

Weather

I also love fall and cooler weather! It has been 75 day but 55 at night which is perfect sleeping weather plus no need for heat OR a/c (low fuel bills this month). We may see hurricane Jose here in southern New England but he has been downgraded to a tropical storm which should not prove very damaging. Honestly, after seeing all the hurricane damage I appreciate living slightly inland. We are five minutes from the ocean but far enough away to avoid huge losses. My heart does go out to those in Naples, key west and of course the Caribbean, which many islands have suffered almost irreparable harm😣.
