I'm kicking myself! My students work on MathWhizz 2-3x a week, usually first thing in the morning, when I'm doing attendance, lunch count, etc. Each week I look to see individually what topics each student needs to work on, and focus their MathWhizz lessons on that topic.
I noticed that one student didn't have any progress bars for any topics. I kept checking, and he had been doing lessons, so I thought it must be a computer glitch. I was talking to my TA this morning, and she said that he was on the leader board screen. I then took a deep dive into his usage, and realized that he hasn't completed a single exercise or test ALL YEAR!!!!!! Now, he didn't come until November, so there's that. But he hasn't made a single progression since he started on MathWhizz with me.
My TA sat next to him this morning and he made 3 progressions.

I'm so frustrated that I didn't catch on to what was going on sooner! I circulate while they are working, after attendance, lunch count, etc.. But I guess he saw me coming and clicked back.

At least he's working now.

We’re a 1:1 school. All the kids have iPads. They can be the sneakiest people, ever...in the history of ever.

Kids are crafty! Especially when they are trying to get out of work.

Been there, done that. You really feel like a fool. But, we can only do so much!!! Now you can kick him into gear for the last 3 months of school!

I have students who fall through the cracks sometimes too. some kids are very good at hiding the fact they aren't accomplishing anything. I had one student who is very high in most subjects. It took till almost November to realize that he wasn't actually accomplishing anything during writer's workshop. He always looked busy, he always seemed to know what he was doing. We always went to the struggling students first and it took a while to realize. I am kicking myself over that too!
