Google classroom privacy question

Is there a way to make the topics only visible to certain students? And if so, how? I clicked around and couldn't find anything that said who the topics were shared with. If the assignments/materials under the topic are only visible to certain students, does that mean they're the only ones who can see that topic title (I remember seeing something about how a topic won't be visible to students if there is nothing posted under it, would this hold true if there is stuff posted, but not shared with the whole class?)

I just googled it because this has been asked a ton and only the students assigned will see the topics. I’m not 100% sure about that. I’d maybe do a practice run.

I’m going to ask my kids tomorrow because now I really want to know. I’ll let you know.

My students only see what I share with them.

But in each individual post you can select groups of students to assign it to. The default is that all names will be selected, but you can deselect all or pick and choose who to assign something to.
If I have to repost an assignment to a single student, then I don’t put it in any topic. It just sits at the top of the classwork tab. The only person who can see it is me...and the kid I assigned it to.

I asked my 2nd graders. They can only see the topics of the assignments I've assigned to them, they can't see all of the topics.

So would this work for differentiation? Like could I assign my GT kids something different than other students...(?).

Sorry-butting into your conversation, Haley.

In fact it is how we do all of our modified assignments. The teachers give me the assignment.c I adjust it for my kids and assign it only to that 4-5. The other kids have no clue who received a different version. It is super handy and one thing I love about this...it is helping to ease the stigma of “getting special work” and I haven’t heard anyone call another kid “retarded” over receiving help, because no one knows it is happening except the kids who receive it!
