Book/Audio Book

I love to read real books. I will will read books I download onto my iPad. I am not a fan of listening to audio books, but there are times I would like to listen to one. For example when Iím walking or driving. The thing is I donít want to be listening to one book while reading another book.

Does the technology exist where I can be reading a book but then switch it over to an audio book so I can continue listening when reading isnít a possibility?

Whispersync is Amazon's technology that lets readers switch ďback and forth between a Kindle book and Audible professional narration - without ever losing your place.Ē The way it works is that you first buy the Kindle book, and then for Whispersync enabled books you can add the Audibile audiobook to the purchase.

I have checked out the same book in both versions. All but one time they were laid out the same way...page number, chapter, etc. I just make sure I finish a chapter before I stop listening/reading. I'm a one book at a time girl!

Whispersync from Amazon is my favorite way to do both, but it's expensive to do all the time.

I usually check out both the audio and ebook at the same time. Then I just make sure to stop reading/listening at a chapter break, so I can easily find my spot.

ETA: Should have read previous replies first.

I'd love to find something like Audible but without the required monthly charge/credit thing. The real book and the unabridged narration would be entertaining to me.

You can buy one book at a time through Amazon. You just order a book and if it has audible available, you can add it for a slightly reduced fee. Usually it's something like $15 for the book and $8 for the audible, but it varies. Sometimes they go on sale (that's usually when I buy it) and sometimes it's popular/new and more expensive.

Yes I may resort to that Gromit as it could be cheaper than a fifteen dollar a month charge and I could read at my own leisure without the pressure of keeping up with an order once a month.
