We just heard we are not returning this school year and online learning starts April 13th. I knew this was coming but I am still sad. I love teaching but I have something I am working on that will fill the void. I will post on here when I get started. Pray everyone is safe!

I felt similarly when Virginia cancelled. I could sense that was going to be the end result but I was surprised when it happened and felt I needed closure.

For those who haven’t started distance learning, what are you supposed to be doing during this time? We started teaching online 9 days ago

I can’t answer that question as we left March 13th and were encouraged to begin providing enrichment (but optional) resources the following Monday. Things are evolving though. We weren’t given time to prepare because the initial month long closing came at 2:30 on Friday.
SoCalTeach, did they give you much time to prepare and a clear timeline?
I gave enrichment resources last week and this week but am only now feeling on slightly more stable ground having been able to get more info from admin and collaborate with my teammates.
It was quite a change to go from “we’re using up our snow days and staying home until after spring break” (a situation we might be in during a bad snow year) to “we’re done for the year” (whole new uncharted territory).

We have a virtual meeting tomorrow as the governor is making an announcement that will directly effect us.

We had a week closure that counted as a weather closure so nothing was required, and now it's spring break. School starts Monday.

Technically I'm not required to do anything yet, but of course we've been prepping.

We were told on a Friday. We gave packets to students for one week. Then we were on Spring break-no assignments needed. Now starting next week it is a combo of packets and online learning. We have quite a few families without internet so packets are required for them. The tricky part is getting them back and handing out new ones. And we do have the stay at home governor's order.

My DD goes to University of Alabama and they have been told not to return to campus. The rest of the semester is online. Hoping that they can start up next fall as normal. Roll Tide!
