Live vs. Pre-Recorded

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I brought home our current read aloud book, and thought that since we do read aloud for 15 minutes each day at school, I would continue during the time off. I originally thought I would just record 15 minutes each day and put it on Google Classroom or SeeSaw for the kids to watch. Now I'm wondering if I should do a Google Hangout or Zoom or something, to connect with the kids, etc. I thought during the pre-recorded sessions, I would stop and ask questions and they could answer themselves, but I'm thinking with a live session, we could all contribute/discuss. While all of my families have internet and devices, I know this time will be stressful, and I don't want to have a mandated log in and this time. I thought I'd make the sessions optional. However, if I do a Google Hangout or a Zoom, can I "record" what we do and put it on Google Classroom for those who can't make the live version to watch? I'd hate for the kids to miss read aloud.

Yes, you can record on GoogleHangout and then post the recording for the students that missed the read aloud. Here is a youtube site that may help:

I haven't tried this yet and I'm not sure that I will, as I teach 7th grade and am a little hesitant that a student might "do" something -

Thanks so much!

I think I will do the live and try to record it. If it doesn't work, I can always record the pages I did read again and post that for students who missed out!

The one thing my kids asked for was to still do "snack and read aloud" together. I hope to do it next week, but won't record it. If they miss it, they miss it.

You can record on zoom as well.

My parents have specifically appreciated the live scheduled event-ness of read aloud. It gives them something to look forward to each day.

can get you in trouble during recorded read alouds. Publishers are quite jealous of free access to their products.

Check this entry posted after this thread began for more information that might save you some time, trouble, and lawyer money.
