Video Rental Question

I have 2 video rental questions.

1. During shelter in place, are video rental stores open? Are they considered essential services?

2. Does Netflix have a DVD by mail component still? Also, I know when you first join Netflix, you get 30 days free. If I have streaming and then add by mail, would I get the the first 30 days of by mail free? Or no because I'm not a new customer?

Just wondering. I know I can rent things on Amazon and there are a lot of video options on Amazon Prime and Netflix streaming, but I was just wondering about those two other options.

I don't know of any video rental stores still in existence, so I don't know about #1. I guess it depends on your state. I know the Redbox thing is still in the grocery store!

I thought Netflix stopped the dvd by mail thing, but I could be way off. I'm guessing that you would not get it free if it's a new customer incentive. but you could always call!

We do 3 disks at a time. More of the newer stuff is on disk. It seems to take longer now than in the past though. There is also redbox at the local grocery store.

Automated Redboxes are still around, and are usually outdoors.

I am incredibly curious as to where you live that there are still video rental stores?? I haven't seen anything like that in years and years. I'm sure they wouldn't be considered essential.

In your Netflix scenario I don't think you'd get the mail service for free. The 30 days is for new customers.

I donít know if video stores are open, but I doubt it. Movie theaters are closed here. Iíve heard drive ins are open.

Netflix does the dvd thing by mail for sure. My dad has been doing that for years! I donít know about the free for 30 days part for the DVDís.

Sorry Iím not much help...

Thanks! Yes, we have Family Video in our area. I know it's rare!

I was curious about the Netflix by mail mainly because there are some rare old movies that aren't available for streaming or to rent on Amazon Prime or Netflix. I am also interested in some tv shows that aren't free on Netflix or Amazon Prime. With Netflix, I could rent, mail back, etc. Something to think about! I'll look into it!
