Transition Lenses

IDK if it’s because I’m getting old or what, but for the last few years I can’t go more than a couple of days of wearing my contacts before I have to take a break and wear my glasses. My eyes get so dry and irritated. I’ve tried different brands and use eye drops (which are getting to be a pain).

I’m thinking about switching over to glasses completely because it’s just not worth it anymore. Does anyone have transition lenses? My eyes are sensitive to the sun, and when I wear my glasses I just deal with it. But, if I plan on wearing them 100% of the time, I’m going to need something for sun protection.

Iíve worn transition lenses for years. Many years ago they didnít get completely clear, but the newer ones do. I always get them bc I donít like having to switch be regular glasses and sun glasses. I highly recommend them.

I've had several transition lenses over the years since I switched from contacts (for much the same reason as you are experiencing). They've gotten better over time about going back to clear. I've also gotten some without transitions. All my glasses have UV sun protection, regardless of whether they have transitions. I will say that in the very sunny areas I've lived, the transition darkness was never enough for me. I often put on a big pair of plastic sunglasses OVER my glasses when I'm going to be out in the sun for a while or when I drive. I don't know if my eyes are extra sensitive or what, but the darkness is not enough for serious sun use.

I had transition lenses back in the day and didn't like them much. They definitely didn't provide enough protection in bright sun, partly because they didn't get dark enough and partly because the lenses didn't curve around close to my face like many sunglasses do. I also disliked not being able to see when I first went inside because the lenses were still dark.

I have transition lenses and I love them. I have worn them when playing tennis, hiking, and at the beach with great results. I don't want to switch between my prescription and sunglasses. So my transition lenses have been a great help for me.

I never liked them - they don't get dark enough for me, especially when driving.

I have worn them for years, and I love them. I live in AZ, and I find they are plenty dark enough for me outside in the sun.

I started wearing glasses about 10 years ago, I got my first pair of transitions about 5 years ago. I find them a challenge to adjust to at first, but I wouldn't go back to the "regular" glasses/reading glasses combo again.

I have a newer pair but I donít really like them. I do not find that they are dark enough outside in bright sunlight. I typically need very dark glasses outdoors so that could be why they donít work for me. If you donít need such a dark lens in your sunglasses I think the convenience of transitions is great.

I love my transition lenses. I find them dark enough in the sun but then I always wear a hat. I find they don't work in the car so I have a pair of cheap sunglasses that live in the car that I wear overtop of my glasses when I drive.

My daughter and I have both commented that our eyes seem to get dry sooner with our contacts. We used to wear them all day. Now we switch to glasses as soon as we get home.

I've had them but didn't like them

Back in the day, I didn't like how long it took to go from dark to light again. I would reenter buildings and be blinded by the dark glasses and cannot see without them.

After many years, I thought I would try again due to new technologies.

They are much quicker to change both light to dark and dark to light--that was a vast improvement...

I do not like that they will not change in the vehicle. Apparently, some UV protectant in the windshield of newer cars and trucks will prevent the transition from activating.

I really wanted them mainly for driving so that was a huge letdown.
