do you refrigerate all of your fruit?

DH is having trouble with cold food due to his chemo. I have always kept things like nectarines and peaches in the fridge. Do I need to, or can they stay out on the counter for him?

Thanks!

They can stay out, they just won’t last as long. Remember, most fruit isn’t refrigerated at the grocery store. You can also refrigerate it if it’s “just right” then bring it back to room temperature for him.

I think of you and your family often.

I usually keep peaches, pears, and cantaloupe on the counter until they are ripe. As soon as they are ripe we eat them so they rarely go in the fridge. I also keep tomatoes out of the fridge.

Iím sure they will be fine unless you slice them. Then they need to be refrigerated.

Some fruit keeps longer if it's refrigerated and it's wise to refrigerate cut fruit.

But if he's having trouble with cold foods, you can certainly leave fruit out for a couple of days. Think about the fruit bowls that people used to have on their table or counter. That was certainly unrefrigerated fruit. And when you buy fruit at a farm stand or even at the grocery store, it is not refrigerated. It should be just fine.

You might keep most of the fruit in the refrigerator (keeping it fresh), but take out a couple of pieces of fruit for him every day so it can be room temperature.

I never refrigerate peaches or nectarines unless they are fully ripe and I don't think I'll eat them before they spoil. If they aren't ripe yet, put them in a paper bag on the counter. If they are fully ripe, just leave out as many as you think he'll eat in a day or two.

I know a little about fruit. Apples n pears at harvest are refrigerated to slow or stop the ripening process.

I only store raspberries and blueberries/blackberries in the fridge.

I try to only buy what is in season.

I personally dislike cold fruit. Oh but of course melon that has been cut must be in the fridge.

I refrigerate berries, apples, and any fruit that is cut. Everything else is on the counter.

I don't refrigerate my fruit either. I do put peaches and nect. in if they are ripe, but to eat them I take them out a little while first.

Funny thing, my dh likes his cold, but if I put them in the fridge he can't find them to eat them.

Berries and cut melon are the only fruits I keep in the fridge.

Even at that, I usually let my bowl of melon set out a bit before eating it because I donít like it cold either.

All except bananas! I wash and store all fruit in Debbie Meyer's green bags. They really work. Every day I get enough out for a cut-fruit bowl which I leave on the counter for us to snack on. It's fine throughout the day and it warms up.
