How would you do a MS science word wall?

do it alphabetically (traditional) or you could do it by unit.

We had the motto FARE for word walls (more like word bulletin boards).

Fresh (changed regularly)
Attractive
Relevant (mostly to current subject but could be to other things)
Exciting (really drew in the kids' curiosity)

I'm going to try one with my US History class this year. I'm going to have it on the wall by alpha, I think. I'm going to use the short size sentence strips. As words come up in a unit, I will have a volunteer with good handwriting write the word on the strip and put it up. I know I will need a LOT of room - I'm thinking one whole wall of the room! I don't think it makes sense to do it unless the words are really big so they can see them from their seat.

I would probably put the words inside 'atoms' or on a 'periodic table'. Maybe use velcro so the words can be changed out.

i tried this but my students (innercity gang members) destroyed it with their gang signs. i've moved schools and plan doing it at my new well-respected school. i have word walls around the room by objective and competency. i like doing a version of kwl and keeping them up all year so the kids remember "oh yea, we did cover that!". i have a poster or sign with the objective and under, around (creatively) have important words that go with that objective in alphabetical order. EX: near the objective about heredity and genetics, i have a laminated punnet square chart where the kids can write on it with board markers. i put the word wall words next to it. for my periodic table-ish words, they are listed around my periodic table. if they are in one place, you are constantly changing them because the curriculum does jump a lot (in my state at least). i always start the word wall in one place so it is easily referred to as we cover the material. (i use the back of my door, because it stays closed during class) and after i move on to another topic, i move the words to a new area of the classroom.
