Trying to figure out the best way to teach it (sequence). Any ideas or resources?

Jaysilver,
Is this a reading or writing or both unit?

I'm assuming you mean narrative writing? I think of each unit as 3 parts. In Part 1, my focus is always on generating ideas, planning drafts, and the structure of a genre. My mini lessons would bounce around among these three topics. In Part 2, I teach elaboration strategies and revision (dialogue, stretching out important moments, inner though, small actions). In Part 3, I focus on Craft (word choice, punctuation, voice, etc). We usually study a mentor text very closely in Part 3.
