Oh geez, another tipping question...

I feel like I've read the answer on here before so I think I know, but do you typically tip people form stores who deliver appliances? Like Costco or Best Buy or Home Depot delivering washers/dryers, dishwashers, fridges, etc?

I never tip delivery people, unless there are extenuating circumstances. If it's 98 degrees outside, if they have a particularly difficult time getting up my tricky stairs, etc.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I feel like if they are making more than minimum wage, and doing their job, they don't earn a tip. If they go above and beyond, I'll tip. If they're making less than minimum wage, I'll tip. I tip restaurant workers very well. But most of my delivery guys reek of weed, and just carry the item in my house, and leave.

Hmmm...we had a fridge delivered last week. It never even occurred to me to tip them.

I've never tipped someone delivering furniture or appliances. It never occurred to me that I should. I'm already paying a delivery fee. Generally I am an overly generous tipper.

Also, I think tipping is out of control.

I've never tipped for delivering appliances. It didn't occur to me since I paid a hefty delivery fee.

I agree with tipping being out of control. I tip at restaurants, beauty salons and car washes, but I don't think a full time employee with benefits needs tipping. I suppose if I asked the delivery guys to go over and beyond, like take the old dishwasher out to the curb, then I would tip for that extra effort.

i asked the company I bought my furniture from if I should tip the delivery people when they brought it. I was told (emphatically) no. I would think appliances would be the same. The delivery fee is charged for a reason. I agree that tipping is out of control, and I am a very, very kind person.

I don't think the delivery people get the delivery fee. They are often not employees of the store but hired out. They are minimum wage people. I tip $10 - more if they have to haul away old appliances.

I tip each person on the team twenty dollars apiece. A little kindness goes a long way in a person's life.

Yep, I tipped the people who delivered and set up my washer and my fridge. Just as parents are required to give us gifts, it's a nice unexpected surprise that could make someone's day.

I tend to tip when there is manual labor involved. I don’t tip plumbers or the heater guys—they make more than me!
