Hello everyone. I am supposed to use Shurley this year for 5th and we are departmentalized. I am concerned about getting quality writing instruction to my students in the 45 or 50 minutes I have w them while implementing this program. My background is a flexible workshop approach, not scripted grammar. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. I have looked thru former posts, but if there are any that you think i have missed, please send me in the right direction.

I am not familiar with this program. Is it an everyday lesson? If it is, maybe you could double up on lessons a couple of days a week, while the other days you focus on your writer's workshop.

Thank you. That is a great idea. It is an everyday, involved program, but i bet you are right. I could probably double up.

Personally, i did not like Shurley English.. i found it to be way too scripted for me... My kids got the songs, and sang along with them but when it came to applying the rules to their grammar.. not so much.. (and we implemented it from grades 1 - 5..)

i am not a fan but that may be because i was new to the district that year and had never seen it in action or have never been trained in the program..
