Standardized state exams

Hello,

There have been many heated debates about how students should be passed or failed - such as their grades and their performance on standardized state exams.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

If you had to pick, which of these options would you prefer?

A. Keep the system as it is, where there are two separate requirements that have to be met.
B. Standardized tests should be worth a percentage of a student's overall grade - like 25% or 50%. Afterwards, we pass or fail students based on their overall grades.
C. There should not be any standardized exams; students should be passed or failed based solely on their grades.

Please let me know why you chose your response.

Thank you!

Because not everyone is good at standardized exams (me). Most, like the ACT, have very little to do with what you actually learn in your classes in high school. Especially the science, which upsets me since Iím a science teacher.

I graduated with a 4.0 in high school (I was #7 out of almost 300 students) and college. But my highest score on the ACT was a 23. Iím very embarrassed about that score. Iíve had students ask me what I made and Iím ashamed to tell them because they made way higher than me. But I also know thatís it is not a true indicator of how smart you are.
