I am not a fancy person. I am a jeans wearing gal. Today I have to go to a wedding and quite honestly I am so stressed out about wearing a dress. I canít believe that Iím so stressed about it. Iíve been actually thinking about it for days. I am so uncomfortable getting dressed up. I always feel like a phony and I am so awkward. Just wondering if anybody else feels this way.

I am the same way. I have to go to a military ball next week and I am stressed about putting on a dress, fancy shoes, and makeup. I am not a dress up kind of gal. More like jeans and t shirt.

Ouch! I'm the same way - The only dresses I like are sundresses with flip flops - on vacation! I'm not fancy schmancy at all.

I just don't wear dresses anymore either, but I feel better in a long skirt. Is that an option for you?

I think they are very over rated and uncomfortable. I would take a dress any day of the week over jeans!

This is especially true for me since I retired. I have found that part of the comfort of jeans and jean shorts is they are mostly made of cotton. I search for cotton or linen dresses or skirts and blouses now. They are hard to find but since the fabric breathes with me they are much better than wearing a man made fabric dress.

Good luck and just remember to smile. If you smile you can carry off just about anything. No one else will know you are uncomfortable. When you get home change back into your comfortable clothing and relax again.

Dressy pants

I love the idea of getting all dressed up. They make formal pants suits my grandmother and the mother of the groom wore them at my sisterís wedding 20 years ago. They are just as nice as a formal dress.

I also hate dressing up. Funny thing is I wore dresses several times a week by choice to school and then work until about 30. Now I rarely wear a dress, even to church.

When I had abdominal surgery this summer I had to wear nothing but dresses for about a month because I couldn't have anything tight around the middle. It was lovely, so comfortable and cool.

And yet, I went right back to jeans when I healed. I think it's because I don't have to think about my legs (I don't really like maxis)-are they shaved, are they too pale, are my veins too prominent It's just easier to throw on a pair of jeans.

I hope you enjoy your dressy day!

Yes I feel that way. I went to a dressy wedding and wore my nice black slacks, dressy top, long pearls and dressy sandals with a kitten heel. I felt comfortable and was able to have fun. There is no reason to wear a dress if you are not comfortable! Women fought hard for our rights to not have to wear a dress!

My solution has been dressy pants and nice accessories, palazzo pants, or a long skirt or dress. These looks can be very dressy, and I donít have to shave my legs or wear stockings.

I know.....I'm just so comfy wearing pants, slacks, trousers...whatever you want to call them. I haven't worn a skirt or dress in years except to a wedding when I had to be dressy. My sister, on the other hand doesn't even own a pair of slacks...She's always in a dress. No thank you!!

I know this is too late for your wedding today. I have worn one piece formal jumpsuits and felt very comfortable in them. This is the last time that they were popular which would have been probably 20 years ago. They were every bad as dressy as a dress and are popular again.

My dresses are always casual (the few times I wear them - I wear jeans and a nice top to church), my shoes are never fancy nor do they have high heels and my make-up is CC cream, a little blush and maybe some lip gloss. Like you I prefer jeans, shorts and t-shirts. For shoes, I like flat sandals, sneakers and sometimes flip flops.

I, too, love jeans and casual clothes. Now retired, I mostly wear workout clothes (at this time of year, that means shorts and a tank top). Last week I had to ďdress upĒ in my casual community. This is dressy for me. I especially like my farmer tan feet. If I can do it, so can you.

I hope you had a good time at the wedding.

I agree with the others, flowy pants and long skirts are lovely for a wedding. I like wearing dresses to weddings and I almost always go out in a full-face of make-up, but only because I enjoy it-- not because it is expected of me. I've not worn a dress to work, ever, but quite a few colleagues do. To each her own, I say.

My mom probably doesnít even own a dress.

She hates them and stopped wearing them years and years ago. She wears dress pants for everything. She wore them to my wedding. She did ask if she had to wear a dress, but I told her to wear whatever she wanted. She wore slacks.

Iím the opposite. I can wear a dres better than pants. I hate jeans. Pants never fit me quite right, so I feel weird in them.

I don't like getting dressed up. I attend a wedding every two or three years and wear the same pretty black dress. I've accessorized it differently with wraps and jewelry each time I wear it.

I don't care if my extended family members see me in the same dress. Most of them probably don't even notice. It is flattering, I feel comfortable in it, and it works for me.

I'd like to clarify one thing - if I liked how I looked in dresses, I would possibly wear them often. I am not comfortable showing my legs (even my dearest friends and husband struggle to convince me that they're not so bad. They're really white, trunky shaped and have blue veins. They're also kind of lumpy. ick! I think my Irish potato farming heritage lead to this disaster along with my lack of real exercise in a while.)
With all that said, I did wear a long black one-shoulder dress with an orange shawl and a turquoise necklace. It all came together accidentally but I really liked it and I received many compliments. Don't get me wrong, I'm happily wearing jeans today and would do so every day if my principal would allow it. . I'm going to be on the lookout for another dress for the next event.

Going Shopping

Glad you came up with something fun and enjoyable to wear to the wedding.

I am happy that you are planning to shop for another comfortable dress for the next event. Please share what you find. Then you can look forward to the special occasion instead of being in a panic. There are comfortable dresses out there. It just takes a great deal of looking. At least that is my experience.

I wear dresses more than pants, but I don't really consider it dressing up! I have even been known to go hiking in a skirt and tank top!

Glad it ended up working out!

I am a huge fan of maxi skirts and relatively dressy-like t-shirts (not sure how else to explain it). Comfortable, covers my body, and actually can look flattering.
Kind of like this, but of course she looks a lot better than I do (and my neckline is more modest)
