I would like to find a book or posting that explains the Pledge of Allegiance in words easily understood by kindergarten students.

I really only have a problem with explaining "I pledge allegiance" in words they will understand.

I had the big book version of the Bill Martin Jr. book, the best yard sale find of my teaching career. By retirement time, it was taped together in 100 places and probably got tossed by the next teacher.

Coopsgrammy... that link didn't work for me. I only got my generic youtube page.

"I promise [to] support" is how it's signed in ASL, which I think is a simpler way of explaining "I pledge allegiance"

I've used both the Scholastic (came out in October 2001, right after 9/ll) and Bill Martin and liked them both. I've stolen freely from Red Skelton in further explaining, as well.

I ordered Martin's book from Amazon. I am not sure the Ks would understand Red Skelton's words, but maybe after hearing the book, I will try that.

Thanks again.

Have you checked out the freebies on Teachers Pay Teachers? There is a nice assortment including at least one mini book and an emergent reader.
