How To Blow An Interview
Old 07-15-2014, 02:15 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

1. When asked about why you would do well at this position, begin talking about your parents' retirement.

2. When asked if you would comfortable teaching Math & Science, discuss how Math is the language of God but certainly not your best subject.

3. When asked why you would choose our campus over other campuses, state the school mascot & colors.

4. When asked how you might handle a disruptive student, announce that you "don't put up with bull***t."

Where do these people come from???? Geez.

Wow. Obviously this person didn't use the interview prep workshops at his/her university.
Sometimes I fantasize about interviewing and giving the most messed up answers possible just to give the interview team something to talk about.

Ok, that's really sad (in a comical way). What's even worse is that the home page shortened your title to "How to Blow a Teacher"

Are you sure there wasn't a hidden camera somewhere?

By the way, this thread shows up on my PT homepage as "How to blow a teacher"

Thanks for the laugh! Where these provided all from the same person? Or from different people?

Wow, I'm so sad I've never had this experience. I would not know how to react when interviewing someone like that, geeze.

Oh my! I read the first part about the parent retirement, and was going to tell you it was just nerves and you'd do better next time. I felt sorry for you. As I kept reading, I caught on that it wasn't you, and I didn't feel quite as sorry for the "applicant!"

I edited the title, but I don't know how it shows up for everybody else now.

I forgot to mention that this guy had on a short-sleeved checkered cowboy shirt, untucked, with faded sagging jeans that were so long they were folded up about 3 inches on the bottom, dusty cowboy boots, and a black felt cowboy hat. Now, here in Texas we can do the cowboy look and still be professional (long-sleeved solid shirt, starched & tucked in to dark starched & stacked jeans) but it wouldn't include a black hat in July. This fella was a mess.

Okay, the answers to the questions were funny, but it was the title of the thread that really got me going. It still says "How to Blow a Teacher" on the home page. HAHAHAHA!!!

I had several candidates we interviewed with this one:

Q: "Tell me about a specific behavior issue you have encountered and how you dealt with it."

A: "Well, I've never really had any behavior issues in my class."

REALLY, PEOPLE?? And you're leaving this heavenly place??

but I believe you win! I would have laughed in his face starting with question #2. When interviews are going that bad, we usually just skip on to the last 2 question and thank the candidate. I almost feel sorry for him.

ME TOO! I had someone (who ended up being the P's 1st choice) answer the questions about behavior problems like that too-

NEVER HAD ONE! SHOCKED me.

I needed a laugh this a.m. What's scary is this guy might eventually end up teaching someone's child! Did this guy go through a university to get his teaching certificate?

I'm almost sure that candidate was a student teacher I had years ago who was kicked out of the program. He would have said all those things and more! At the end of the interview when the question "do you want to say something about yourself" usually is asked, he would have shared his sword fight scar. The one on his stomach.
