Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have been mulling over the idea of having students create a "facebook" page for themself; however, it wouldn't be an actual live site, but something that was created using a Word (possibly?????) programme. These are Middle School students and I wanted to use this as part of a social networking lesson(s). Any ideas?????

Edmodo is like Facebook, but for schools. Maybe that would be helpful. Just make sure you follow the district rules about this type of thing.

Do you mean something like Fakebook? I want to try it with my kids but I don't have a way to do it yet.

Fakewall looks like it would be useful, but as you said yesteach, it doesn't appear to be working at the moment. I will keep checking to see if that status changes. I think edmodo might do the trick, but I have to set up an account and "play" with it a bit. Thanks for the information.

Check out Edmodo and Schoology. I have used Edmodo as a student in a masters class, but found it a little difficult for elementary school. I am going to spend some time checking out Schoology this summer.

I just used the characterbook template

from here. I left one copy as is--a reader's response page for individual characters/books. Then I renamed it and reformatted it to be an "All about me..." kind of page with the same formatting. I don't have a copy of that on this computer though.

I will say that having them fill it out once for themselves made it much EASIER to re-introduce and fill out for another "person" for the character traits lesson. (I didn't do that the first time and it was AWFUL trying to get good information in the character activity.)

Anyway, it was made by the fellow PTer and is in Word. I made a copy to post on my SmartBoard and we did one together for me. Then I had them answer basic questions about themselves on notebook paper. Then I introduced the template. Some wanted to jump right in on the electronic copy and some wanted to have a print out to do a hard copy first.

Edmodo is great! I have used it for the past three years with my students. I used it to post homework assignments. My students submitted work on there. I communicated with parents (there is a parent code for each student when they sign up) and my students. Try it out!
