Lip issues -- due to masks?

Since school started, my upper lip has been incredibly dry and "tight" feeling. I'm an avid Chapstick user, and nothing is helping at all.

This morning, my upper lip looks a bit rashy, maybe like cold sores. (and of course, it's school picture day - !)

Anyone else experiencing this? Any tips, besides chapstick? (I won't use vaseline.....the petroleum smell bothers me)

Lip balms with menthol, camphor, phenol and the like (this includes chapstick and carmex) generally make dry lips worse in the long run. Try using a lip product with vitamin e oil. I use this stuff:

https://www.puritan.com/puritans-pri...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

And yes, masking all day is causing me some skin issues. I typically start having dry lip issues at this time of year when the furnace starts kicking in and the air in my house becomes dry but it is worse this year. And, I've started carrying skin care wipes to clean under my mask at noon. It helps prevent rashes/pimples that can come from wearing a mask all day.

My dermatologist recommended Dr Dans CortiBalm.
It has Hydrocortisone 1%

I developed an allergy to lanolin a few years ago and figured out it is in most lip products/ I had the same symptoms you’re experiencing. I stopped using lip products completely and switched to only Vaseline. I know you say you hate it, but it might be worth a try.

I haven't had this problem, but I'll keep a few of these suggestions in mind in case I do, thank you!

Vitamin E and apply it. If you think it is cold sores, start taking L-lysine daily.

Blistex has a good cold sore medication that is soothing.

Do you think a face mask bracket would help? It keeps the mask off your lips. Amazon has several products.

My husband works in a warehouse - without effective a/c - sometimes none. Around May he got an infection on his lips from wearing a mask, it started like that. He eventually did one of those text a doctor things and got a prescription that cleared it right up.

As far as this:

I DO have the brackets, and wear them every single day while I teach. I love how they keep the mask off my mouth, and amplify my voice a bit.

Face Spray

I have been using a lot of face spray. I spray my face throughout the day. Its fabulous and feels amazing.

I use a variety of sprays. I spray my face at school, in my car and at recess breaks. I use Olay mist, Wet n Wild photofocus coconut primer water and Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Rosewater. It makes a big difference on skin and my skin is awesome now!

I have really sensitive skin and lots of allergies, but this feels so good with my lips are dry:

Eco Lips Mongo Kiss Mongongo Oil Lip Balm with Beeswax and Cocoa Butter, 4-Pack (Acai Berry/Banana/Blood Orange/Yumberry Flavors) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQMJW9H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_iBNCFb7TPD FMQ

The other thing you might want to consider is if a different kind of mask would feel better. These nice or soft, like a T-shirt. They are very comfortable against my skin. They were recommended to me by a friend who is a microbiologist. This link is for Amazon, but they’re also sold in Walmart. Hanes Face Mask, Pack of 10, Black, One Size Fits Most https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0887LQHPC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_NCNCFb1J5P 15T

And last thing, make sure your mask are staying clean and dry. I change mine a couple of times throughout the day. It’s especially important if you get hot and sweaty for any reason.

Yup! Those t-shirt material masks are my favorite. I get mine from Curvy Sense, I think?

I had to at the last line. Teaching Pre-K is a hot and sweaty job, with or without a mask on!
