Tangerine stick - is it necessary?

I have seen a purpose-made tool for tapping the smartboard and am told it's referred to as a "tangerine stick" - just wondering whether teachers out there consider it necessary, and also whether people have used home-made versions? I'm thinking of a tennis ball and a length of dowel...

Is this something that is sold commercially? I never heard of it.

and tried to google it with no luck too. We used those "Mickey" hands sold at teacher stores and by Schlastic books. There are various lengths and styles of stick with a small white (and now colored) gloved hand with a pointer finger sticking out.

You can use tennis balls by themselves, especially for kids with fine motor or eye-hand coordination issues. If I were putting it on the end of a dowel, I would put something smaller and/or lighter--maybe a bouncy ball, cute eraser or novelty pencil topper.

Not sure why you need that???

If things don't move in a friendly way, we have our kids use one knuckle and problem solved.

(Stick out pointer finger, then bend like a hook.)

are great for me because I'm small in stature and sometimes trying to reach items on the Smartboard is a problem. But I don't think your tangerine stick is necessary for tapping the board. Your board should be sensitive enough without needing this tool to operate it.

What has helped me the most is a remote mouse. I use it all the time.
