Emergency staff meeting at restaurant

I work at charter school. Sometimes we do things that are a little unconventional, but i think having an emergency staff meeting at a restaurant is a little ridiculous. Now we have had meet ups several times this year, but they have been celebratory AND voluntary. They were never staff meetings. In the email I received it was stated that the meeting was critical to discuss plans for the last week of school before the winter break, discuss and authorization visit, admin evaluation process, teacher evaluation process and that sometimes we just need to have a drink and be among fiends. I dont mind going to meet ups as long as it an option.

What do you all think?

I think staff meetings should be at school! Save restaurants for "if you want to come we are celebrating...."

I'd be happy to go if they were paying...

I think it needs to be optional

If they are using your contract time and buying, I'd be fine with it.

As long as they are buying I'm there. I'm not big on staff get togethers, but a staff meeting in a different locale would suit me fine

Maybe it's there way of trying to surprise everyone with a holiday party?

Years and years ago, another staff member came to my room just before school ended and said we were having an emergency meeting right after school. Me, being the good girl, went down to the staff lounge. Turns out they were giving me a baby shower. They should have told me to wait a few minutes, I got there before most everyone else.

Sorry to sidetrack, but I find your typo to be hilarious in context..."to be among fiends"

By the way, definitely not being a grammar/spelling nazi here...I make typos ALL the time (which my students love to correct if I'm typing on the Smarboard lol)

I agree- not mandatory if it's not at the appropriate time and at the school. If it's off campus, it should be optional!

Personally, I think that a little alcohol would make staff meetings more tolerable.

If the school is paying and going to compensate for my time then yes,,otherwise-sorry made other plans. I worked at a charter for three years. It was a nightmare.
