Was at the pediatrician today with sick kiddos and they asked if I wanted them. I passed today because they were vomiting and miserable. But we will get them in 2 weeks at their well check.

We had a rough year last year. There were so many students out with the flu.

The first year I taught I got the flu. The older you get the harder it is to have the flu. I have gotten the flu shot since. They come to the school and our insurance covers it.

Yes. I began doing so after a teacher friend's dh died from the flu. He was 55 years of age and didn't think he was that sick. Teachers can spread the flu even when they are not sick with symptoms. Be considerate and get the shot. Your family and students will appreciate it.

Could've written your post, anna. Sort of... I've been getting the flu shot for decades and my kiddos get it too - we are just too snotty and asthmatic. Respiratory things are tough for us.

A few years back a friend - just turned 56 and no health problems besides carrying about 30 extra pounds - died of the flu. He had it for about 10 days and was "getting better" according to his wife. The morning he died, his wife awoke to hear him making odd sounds, sort of like struggling to breathe, but a little different. She couldn't rouse him - so she screamed for their youngest (who lived at home) to dial 911. He died in the ambulance. His heart gave out.

Absolutely. I had a bad case of flu back when I was in my early 20's. Retired now. But I was so sick that it hurt to turn my head. My husband even missed work to take care of me. I will definitely be getting a flu shot.

Yes!! I do not want grandchildren to get the flu from me or anyone else who may be vulnerable. We had a very young, healthy young father die suddenly from the flu here last year. Not sure if anyone can be immune to this type of disease.

Yes! I'm excited because my cousin said they're offering the nasal spray for kids again this year. My 5 year old DS freaked out when he had the shot last year. She's an infectious disease nurse a couple of hours from me I really hope our clinic is doing them, too.

the flu shot, nor have I had the flu. I do have a doctor's appt early in October. I will ask him if I should or not. Since I retired in June, I am not around kiddos anymore. I always had that immunity. I feel my doctor will advice me to get the shot....

I have RA and take a biologic medicine that suppresses my immune system. I'll get one the next time I'm at Target. I also have to get a pneumonia shot, as per my doctor.

I do not usually get one. The years that I have gotten one, I wound up sicker than the years I did not.

The last time I got it, I had numbness and could not raise my arm above my head for about 6 months!

I never do, anymore.

The last time I had the actual flu was about 28 years ago. I took a flu shot twice since then and, both times, became sick as a dog with flu-like symptoms. I choose to not subject myself to that. I exercise regularly, get plenty of rest, eat decently and wash hands thoroughly and often. My husband, much older, does get a flu shot but never suffers from it like I do.

Yes, I always get one. I've had the flu a few times in my 63 years and it is AWFUL. I hope this year's shot is very effective. I had the flu last winter even with the shot.
