There's not a day that goes by where I am not in awe of technology. But perhaps the most stunning technology that is underrated is public restroom toilet paper. You know what I'm talking about. The BIG rolls.

I cannot imagine how they put together this single-ply 8th wonder of the world. It is seemingly one atom thick and yet it somehow holds together until it is touched. And it's a testament to human achievement that anyone can coax a useable scrap of paper when it's a fresh roll, yet somehow we manage. Well, today my skills can be put to rest. Today the new rolls of toilet paper on campus are thicker and stronger than any I've ever seen in my adult life. I kid you not when I tell you I could actually pull out what I needed without effort. So excited I was that I gleefully pulled out much more than I needed and simply spent a few moments tossing it into the air in celebration. Eventually I remembered what I was really there for - to hide from my students, so I finished up. But wow, what a day. I'll forever remember where I was when I experienced this joy. Stall number one, right next to the urinals.

Huh. We always blame the kids for the toilet paper confetti. Maybe it's really celebrating adults just happy to have found actual tp in a stall for once.

Those huge rolls they sell just do not roll well at the beginning. Id rather buy regular sized rolls that roll easily!

I don't know if it were me or my dh, but one of us bought a big package of one ply paper. I can't stand it, but I can't just throw it away!

Next time you're in the bathroom please figure out a formula on which toilet paper is the best price. For the life of me I have no clue.

Do you have a guest bath? Keep it stocked forever with awful tp.

A few years ago our school district apparently was on an economic kick and attempted to save $$ in the same manner. They finally threw in the "roll" and returned to regular ply. And as we all know, regular, is a good thing.

I don't believe you! Your statement that you could actually pull out what you needed without effort is just too incredible. In my extensive experience, that has never happened.

was the roll put on properly? I mean, with the paper coming from the top, not the bottom?

At Costco you can purchase

those giant rolls of 1 ply toilet paper. We accidentally bought the 18 rolls of toilet paper in a brand name only to find out it could also be used as tracing paper in art projects. We are slowly using it up. My DGS comes to visit and always goes to the storage closet to find the "good stuff" and takes it into the bathroom with him. He refuses to suffer from our mistake.
BTW-FYI-Costco sells the cheap 1 ply stuff, but if you use their restrooms you will find they supply it with the softest, best, most expensive rolls.

You know that New Year's Eve is just around the corner. If you need some confetti you could go to your stash and shred some of it up.

You're right, it's hard to believe. Good TP in a school/public bathroom? It's nothing short of a miracle!
