Babysitting age

How old is your babysitter to just watch your child sleep? Dh and I want to go to dinner. 730-930 but how old is a sitter for that? We will be in the plaza next to our house and if called can walk home in five minutes.

I started babysitting alone for short time periods when I was 12.

I was 12 too when I started babysitting. However, I seem to recall a woman being arrested because she used a 13 year old babysitter?

I would think a 12 year old would be fine for that.

Where I live, legally you have to be 13 to babysit.

I think it also depends on the age/maturity of the child to be babysat.

I used 13-14 year olds as much as I could.

I was 13. But I would prob let my 11 yr old neighbor do that if my DD wasn't a baby.

What is the age you were considering to use? We had a girl who was 11 but she was home schooled and had baby sat with her older sister a lot.

Mine started at 12 if they lived in the neighborhood and had parental backup close by. A little later without.

16 for nighttime and maybe 14 for a quick trip to the store for a preschooler or early elementary school age child. For others, (babies and older elementary), at least 18 years old.

The girl is 13. Very mature and responsible. She's a teachers kid. She would watch Reid who is 2.5. He will already be in bed. I have a video monitor and can be home in 5 mins ???
I was 12, but now that IM the parent, it's scary

My daughter is 12 and I would not hesitate to let her babysit under the circumstances you described.

I think that any responsible child of 11 and up would be good for this job as you have described it. It is almost like a mother's helper. You will be so close and can be called to come home if necessary.

Our 13 y/o DD sat with 3 year old autistic twins several weeks ago all day on a Saturday! She is the type who thrives on responsibility and there are many others out there like that. I think that age is fine. I was the same age when I started sitting.

Before I read how old the girl was, I said 13. I would be comfortable with your situation. I had a teacher's daughter babysit mine at 13. Good luck!

I think 13 is okay for what you have planned.
