We have two miniature schnauzer puppies and they need to be groomed. My husband wants us to learn how to do it. Have you tried grooming on your own? I am worried!! Any advice would be great.

We learned from watching video's on the internet. Don't worry about it, if you make mistakes, they quickly grow out. Buy good equipment, a breeder can tell you exactly what equipment you need. If you don't mind spending the time grooming the dogs, you will save a great deal of money over the lifetime of the dogs.

We are checking out video instructions now. We went to the pet store today and there were so many clippers that we couldn't decide what to buy. Any suggestions on brands/types?

check with a groomer or a breeder. We have a standard poodle. Different cuts require different types of products.
I'm sorry, I don't know anything about schnauzer grooming.
If you read up on the internet, I bet someone out there has instructions about what you would need. One thing you might want to look into is a really good, I mean really good, dryer. We have one that is powerful enough to blow the water off the dog. It really cuts drying time down. They aren't cheap, but will pay for themselves over time.
After doing research, we bought Wal Bravura clippers. Based on everything we read, they seemed to be the most recommended and again, not cheap. They have lasted and lasted.

How ironic, we have the same number of posts!

We had a Coton de Tulear - Kito - a white haired dog from Madagascar - that needed grooming. I tried doing it myself and I just didn't have the skill for it. If I had it to do over again, I would invest in one of those tables that you leash them to so they stand up while grooming. My Kito would lay down a lot while I am trying to cut his hair.

I also have a Papillion that I tried grooming myself too. Grooming two dogs myself was a LOT of work. They had crooked cuts. I finally gave up and took them to the groomers.

I have a Shih Tzu that I groom myself, most of the time. The first couple of times were not very good. But I kept at it. Now I only take her to the groomer at the beginning of the summer. They seem to be able to get her hair shorter than I can, and she is much cooler.

I groom myself. I do it over 2 days- we both get tired. Of course, he looks like he's been through a chicken plucking machine for a while, and all the neighborhood dogs make fun of him...but we get through it in spring and summer.

My kids, on the other hand, won't let me near them
