...but if you try sometimes, well you just might find you get what you need.”

That Stones’ chorus ran through my head this afternoon, after a frustrating day with 4th graders who were a hot mess. Storms are incoming, which of course just added fuel to the fire.

I walked into the office to sign out, dragging my tail behind me, when I heard, “Mrs. Mooba!!!!” A sweet little 2nd grader ran up to me and hugged me like we hadn’t seen each other in years. Just what I needed to start the weekend off right. How did she know?

Hope all y’all have a restful weekend. Yes, the southern stereotypes have a lot of truth to them.

I'm from Texas. The south truly is a different world.

So true....the sweet first and second graders just make my day. I have been covering a specials teacher for the past 6 weeks 3 days a week. This is a job that would otherwise go unfilled and teachers would not get their prep. I am doing my best to deliver content, despite technology the rarely works. Many teachers have thanked me which I appreciate, when signing out today the principal looks at me and asks if I know when Mrs. X will be back, no thanks for doing a job she knows darn well no one will take.

What matters is that you’re making a difference for the kids and for the teachers who are in the trenches with you. As for your admin, here’s another old country saying especially for her: “ Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya”.

My sister, and her family, moved to the south because of her husband's job. During an interview (she is also a teacher) she was told "Honey, just 'cause yer from the north dudn't mean ya know it all."

People in the south don't like people that brag about themselves. We are extremely humble and almost brag about our weaknesses. That has been the biggest difference, I've seen, in moving to California. Also that everyone is our best friend. It truly is a different world. Not that it is all positive, though.
