Why does 1-ply TP exist?

I bought some toilet paper from Target a few weeks ago. When I got around to using it, I discovered it was 1-ply. I still use the same amount overall, so why does 1-ply even exist?

Oh.my!

Funny story about 1 ply. Several years ago I was laid up with a broken hip. DH was in charge of Christmas. He bought 1 ply TP. DS came home for Christmas. He came out of the bathroom asking if his dad last his job. We were all puzzled until he clarified about the 1 ply. DH has been very careful to only buy 2 ply since

My school tried to save money by buying 1-ply. While toilet tissue isn't usually a matter of conversation, it quickly became the hot topic of the year. If they thought we wouldn't notice, they were wrong! And it saves no money when you have to use double! The district has since chosen other ways to be cheap.

I think it dissolves faster so it's better for septic tanks. However, we have a septic tank and don't use 1-ply!

1-ply toilet paper must have been invented by the same jerk who invented the equally crappy (no pun intended) brown paper towels that every school district seems to use. Those paper towels are useless!! They actually seem to repel moisture. Ugh!

The rolls of toilet paper in public bathrooms are getting narrower.
So you pull off more. Someday it will be as wide as adding machine tape okay cash register receipt paper.

Can I add I don't like the Mega Rolls. They are wound looser around a bigger core. They don't fit my bathroom holder.

I think it exists to annoy people. I accidentally bought it last time and I can't stand it.

Thatís what I use! I grew up with it so I like it. I do think the rolllasts longer.

Itís great for the RV because it disintegrates quickly.

Iíve tried Charmin and the other luxury tp and just didnít care for them.

I have family members who live in houses that are pretty old. One was built in 1878 and one in 1921. I don't know when the plumbing was put in the houses, but both families say the pipes are narrower than modern ones, and insist on 1 ply toilet paper.

That's what be we use! I don't like the thick stuff. My mom bought me some ( a subtle hint while visiting maybe?) and I feel like it's too much.

My father told us that while in the Army during WWII, he was supposed to use only three sections of toilet paper. Imagine that with 1 ply tissue. No, on second thought, don't imagine that.

I think he was trying to save money because there were a lot of kids in our house.

Today, I do try to stick to that rule, though, with my ultra plush 2-ply paper.
