The "destinations" part makes me think of travel and exotic/famous places.

I too thought of traveling when I read it. Maybe you could use suitcases/luggage, post cards from various places, stamps, or money from other places.

You used the book "Oh the Places You Will Go" by Dr. Seuss as inspiration. You could use different colors of butcher paper to create the book cover.
You could also use different modes of transportation to go along with your destination theme like hot air balloons, trains, planes, cars, helicopters, ships, etc.
Or, you could choose different world famous locations like Paris, London, New York City, L.A., etc., to decorate your room with the locations. Maybe have "Big Ben" be the Time for Reading nook??? I'm just making stuff up here but themes are what I love to do!!
I'm not sure if all of your colleagues are taking a location but if not, that may be a good idea too. For the modes of transportation, maybe each grade level could adopt one for their team and decorate around that theme. Let's keep brainstorming...this is great!!!

Our school is combining a 7 Continents theme from Upstart (complete with passports & stamps) along with B&B Circus. They will travel to each of the continents trying to see the circus (in which a carnival will be our end-of-the-year party). We also found cute sturdy cardboard "suitcases" from a company called Guildcraft. Maybe these ideas will help to inspire your creative side!
