I am teaching 5th grade with a team of 2 other teachers. I am NOT a sports person at all.....absolutely dislike sports. However, when discussing themes with the other teachers, they really wanted to do this theme. I'm okay with doing it as I am a team player, but I loved my polka dots from last year. How do I do the sports thing and make it real cutsey? I just can't seem to get motivated. I've searched the boards and there are some great ideas....... I just can't seem to get it going.

Couldn't you keep your dots and add sports balls here and there and make it like "having a ball in fifth grade" that way you have the dots and the balls and it all sort of fits? Then you can obviously tie in things about being a team and playing fair and so on.

...about not really being into sports. (Neither am I.) But a couple of years ago I did a sports theme in my 4th grade class. It turned out really cute and the kids loved it! A couple of my favorite things: "Touchdown Terms" for my word wall. I put a goal post in the center of my word wall and put the title inside. I found a picture of an animal kicking a football and put it to the side. Then I placed subject titles on footballs for my headers. Got lots of compliments! I called my library "Slam Dunk Reading" and used one of those inexpensive indoor basketball goals. Helper Board: "We All Pitch In". I made small baseball bats and wrote the jobs on those, then put student names on basseballs to rotate through the jobs. The students who did not have jobs that week/day were kept in the "dugout" PT has lots of great ideas. Good luck!

check this out - classroom with style dot com. i am doing a sports theme this year and actually am having a blast setting up my room for the theme. I will try to get some pictures to post. It encompasses all sports that way it builds more on team work than sports

Here are some pix of my class I was working on today - I got the ideas for all the boards from classroom couture themed book. Really cool stuff in there

Check out Beth Newingham's site: http://hill.troy.k12.mi.us/staff/bnewingham/myweb3/

I did this theme a few years ago and LOVED it. I'm not a sports fan at all either but had a blast with this one. There was so much available. I went the "Go Team" route also and incorporated all the sports and really played up the whole "teamwork" idea.
