Best news of 2019

This morning I met old friends for breakfast in a crowded noisy restaurant. It was delicious and fun because I CAN HEAR!

For anyone with hearing loss, restaurants are the worst because of so much ambient noise. I have spent social meals smiling and not hearing 1 wordójust tons of background chatter/clatter. Today I was an active participant and I had a grand time.

Hooray for genius hearing aids!

That is great news, and I am so happy for you! My dad's definitely do not work that well.

My best news? My mom stood in the kitchen and washed a small sink of dishes. That is the most she has done since last February.

My hearing aids are Signia Cros. They are not cheap, but they are brilliant. The receiver in my almost deaf ear picks up sounds on that side and sends them to my better ear (which still needs a lot of assistance). They are programmed for me and really think for themselves; for example, when Iím out walking and streaming a library book from my phone to my hearing aids, when a loud truck passes they increase volume then go back to normal after it is past me. Sorry if TMI, I clearly love my new lease on life.

I am so happy for you. What a feeling it must have been to interact with your friends.

I am trying to get my dad to go for hearing aids and always bring up what new you are hearing. My mom says he is getting more interested in going to get them.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Aw I'm happy for you. I must focus and watch a person speak in order to hear them sometimes. I'm not sure if this is truly a hearing problem, but it's frustrating. Hearing better must be wonderful.

Iím glad they are working for you. I know how difficult it can be to fit hearing aids.

Eventually I will need them, Iím sure. I have had multiple severe ear infections as a child, and I have some loss already. I have to be looking at peopleís mouths when they talk to me, especially when it is someone I donít talk with regularly.

My dad was almost completely deaf without his hearing aids. He was able to function when he got the hearing aids. My grandpa had severe hearing loss, too, but he never did get hearing aids.

that would tip the scales on DH saying "YES!, by golly, I'd better get hearing aides." He worked for 20 years in a steel building construction plant (=very loud). I know he worries about the cost and has just about given up on the idea.

I'm so glad you are having a great time with your hearing aides and new lease on life!

P.S. Kahluablast, glad to hear of some renewed energy re: your Mom. It really is a big deal.
