Tell me about melatonin
Old 04-17-2020, 12:36 PM

I have had some sleep issues on and off for the past few years. I fall asleep but wake up in the middle of the night, unable to fall asleep again sometimes for hours. I wonder about melatoninóis it something you just take from time to time as needed, or do you have to take it regularly? Once you start it, can you go back off it and still sleep properly? What dosage would/did you start with? Thanks for any advice.

I like the gummies. I take two and then read quietly for an hour, then it is lights out!

I heard about melatonin here and from a friend at work. Occasionally, I will take a small dose (5mg) about one hour before I go to bed. I take it in a pill form. I think Kroger or Walgreens brand. I was really surprised that it really worked! I have not had one in awhile. I use the Calm app to put me to sleep more often, now. One side effect was really weird dreams. I randomly take it. More when Iím stressed out.

I also had weird dreams from melatonin. Now I take 400 mg of magnesium glycine. My interpretive oncologist recommended it to me to help sleep at night. It works quite well as long as I donít have to get up at 3:00 (typical time ) to go to the bathroom. Once I am up it then takes a good hour to fall back asleep.

I take it at times especially when I'm traveling because I don't sleep well then the first few nights. I find it helps me fall asleep but it doesn't necessarily help me stay asleep.

I take it occasionally. Just 1mg does it for me. I'd start with a low dose and see if that works. I haven't had the weird dream problem but that might be because my dreams are weird most of the time.

I take it occasionally- just when I know I'll likely have difficulty falling asleep. I take 3 mg pill.

I had the weird dreams. They were very vivid. I didn't like it so I stopped taking it.

My daughter

We found that my 17 year old daughter got very emotional and down. We had to stop her from taking it.

On the other side of that, I got her a small aloe plant, and boom... she has been sleeping WELL!!!! It is a natural solution....

I wish you well...

It gave me terrible and vivid dreams. I had a horrible headache the next day. I only took it once.

It didn't work at all for me. I take Ambien and that works great with no side effects.

I stopped taking melatonin because of the weird dreams. I only took it a few times because of the dreams.

I take 10mg of melatonin a night.

I take it most every night. I donít when Iím not having to keep any kind of schedule.

Iíve always had really weird, lucid dreams, so I donít see enough difference to stop taking it.

I've never taken it, but I just want to add that make sure you double check with your doctor, as I've heard it can interact with some medications and conditions. I do think it's safe for most people though.

I always have weird dreams and nightmares, but melatonin made them much worse. I was afraid to go to sleep for awhile because I knew what was coming.

I hadn't known so many had weird dreams! I have weird dreams typically, and they are really vivid and always have been, so I'm not sure if there's a difference on the nights I take melatonin.
