AT&T u-verse has good internet, but I absolutely hate this company. Their customer service is the worst. I just had a heated conversation with them about 1/2 an hour ago and my heart rate is still up! I would rather pay more at a different company that deal with them anymore.

What do you recommend for phone and (very) high speed internet? Dish? Comcast? Other?

We have time Warner for Internet. It is good. I HATE ATT. We had it for Internet and their customer service was horrible. I couldn't deal with them. I know where you are coming from.

I feel the same way about Comcast, so don't go there! Whenever I have a problem, it takes multiple hours-long calls to get it fixed. They also promised me a refund and never gave it to me. I should call, but I just can't stand dealing with them.

There just aren't good options out there!

I have a local company. I started with them in 1996 and have stayed. Their home internet service is through century link but, I never have problems. I can speak with a person in town and they patiently walk me through things. They mostly serve business companies now but I am very happy with them. there may still be a small local provider you can use.

I guess it depends on where you live. We had terrible experiences with Time Warner (in Southern CA) and we've had many many years of pretty good service from Comcast (in Northern CA).

Our Comcast has great customer service - we had an issue with our internet being out after we got back from a long road trip (we had unplugged everything while we were gone and couldn't get it to reconnect when we got home). The first guy tried what he could do on his end, no luck, so scheduled a service call for the next day. The next morning I got a call from some Comcast problem solving department - they said they had worked on my issue overnight and to reboot and try it again. Success!! No service call needed.

We have very little choice....we have Comcast but don't like it. Not as much to choose from in a rural area. My husband often has to use his Verizon mobile hot spot to use the internet because Comcast goes out so much.

I had the same experience with AT&T over a bill I had paid, but which they were insistent I still owed. We went back and forth for weeks, but it ended with me getting a refund check! It was so stressful and aggravating to deal with their customer "service."

There are no good options, really. I think Internet service should be considered a public utility, like the gas or electric company, and should be regulated like one!

Same thing there. DH had to call them the other day and was ready to pull his hair out before he ever got to a human voice. We thought that was terrible customer service.

P.S. And the internet isn't even that good.

Do we all have different Comcasts? Whenever I call, I get people in other states, so I thought there was one headquarters. I will say that I hadn't had a bad experience until this past year, but this past year I had so many problems it was ridiculous.

Some of your stories make me feel better and worse at the same time! I hate that many of us have had bad experiences, but there is a sliver of comfort knowing it's not just me.

I think I might try DISH since I have them for TV and I have been very happy with their customer service so far. I just fear that my AT&T chats aren't done because I'm sure my cancellation didn't go through or something.

I've only ever had Charter Communications & Verizon FIOS, which has now changed hands to Frontier Communications. I love Verizon/Frontier! I haven't had to call their tech dept for issues barely ever at all & I've had them for the last 4 yrs.

My DH complained for years to AT&T about some issues we were having. He finally got fed up and went to work emailing his complaint the ceo of the company. He has had good luck in the past figuring out the email address for the head of a company when he has an unresolved issue. His email got there and all of the sudden we got great service! We had three workmen at our house working one whole afternoon. (Around 5 hours I think.) Return visits were made after parts came in and everything was fixed or replaced as well as a substantial credit on our bill for all the years we had been complaining with no satisfaction. I don't think I had to pay the uverse bill for 3 months. It is a shame that it has to come to that. You can only get good service if you manage to find and complain to the ceo or president.

Don't get me started on AT&T's customer service. Terrible! During my experience. I was a brand new customer of just a few days and couldn't get any help when they charged more than the agreement. I canceled the service right then and there. The story is much longer and more agonizing, but I'll spare you the details. My blood pressure definitely went up!

I like your idea, bucket. Be the squeaky wheel at the highest level until you get what you'd like. Squeak away!

If Time Warner and/or Comcast's corporate offices imploded, taking all the head honchos with it, people would pour into the streets rejoicing and celebrating.

You now know my opinion. Horrible customer service that makes AT&T look good. And I hate AT&T.

1st to doingitall what's a "Local company???" We don't have those anymore...

Comcast is just as bad as AT&T except they raise their rates more often than AT&T (and AT&T raises their rates I think about once a year even when you are under contract!)

I found AT&T a little easier to work with than Comcast and I've had both...

I had Dish for a little bit too and I don't remember why I didn't like them.

DirectTV is now part of AT&T...

To me there are NO "good" companies anymore.

I have Xfinity Comcast and have the most amazing internet strength. Never had any issues or complaints.
