Resume Questions

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am a certified teacher in 6 areas but am currently subbing and have been for the last 3 years. I want to redo my resume but am not sure what format is best and how to display it. I moved around a lot (positions/districts) and my resume looks horrible. I don't have money for a professional company and I don't feel that I can write an effective one. any and all suggestions are appreciated.

My work history
2006-2007 3rd grade teacher at a charter school
2007-2008 Library teacher at same charter school
2008-2009 Math remediation 6th-8th grade. at a new district
2009-2010 3rd grade teacher same school district
2012-2016 paraeducator k-5 for new district
2016-2017 6th grade reading for same district
2017-present substitute teacher for new district.

You are definitely marketable

I'm not the expert on this, but my first thought was to combine the positions that were for the same school/district:

2006-2008 3rd grade teacher and library (might say media or??) at charter

It takes less space and is a much shorter list.

Another thought is to list the types of positions:

2006-present; education positions:
Paraeducator k-5
Substitute teacher
Librarian or media center
3rd grade teacher
Reading teacher; math remediation teacher

And then list locations:
__Charter school
--- District
---District
---District

Something like that gives the facts without highlighting the moving around. Instead, it highlights the wide range of your experience, everything from para and sub to classroom to BOTH reading and math. You sound very marketable to me, with that broad range of experience.

I agree with other posts. Put present work history first and group together. Also, triple check spelling and grammar in resume. You sound like you could fit in my old school. I am retired now.
Good luck!

Some various forms...

you might consider having a couple types of documents for employment purposes... There is the Curriculum Vitae (CV) which is a potentially, and acceptably, long running-list of your work and achievements. Then there is the Resume, which is not a run down of your past experiences, but a presentation of your professional self tailored to a certain objective/ position desired. Having a CV, as a backup in case anyone asks for details, is freeing in that it allows you to be very brief and concise in your resume. You can then summarize your skills and abilities, rather than titles, places, and years. Best wishes to you! you have a wealth of experience!!
