What ingredients do you put in your pasta salad. Mine needs some work. Lol

Pasta Salad

pasta, chopped onion and red bell pepper, frozen green peas, celery, sliced black olives (not the juice)

Sometimes I add frozen yellow corn as well. I like a good color variety.

Sometimes I add cubed ham steak for protein.

I agree with a variety of color.

My basics: broccoli, grape tomatoes, black olives, red onion, yellow pepper, whatever looks good. I am not a ham fan and am always astounded to see it suggested here so often—maybe it’s regional? My protein is grilled chicken, tuna, or shrimp. I also like bacon bits.

My pasta salads were bland for the longest time. I finally realized I wasn’t adding enough salt.

I rarely like pasta salads because they usually seem to include too many different vegetables for my liking and I LOVE veggies. Here is an Ina Garten recipe for a Pasta, Pesto (homemade or Costco brand) Pea Salad that I have made and really like. I hope you enjoy it too!

Pasta, Italian dressing, mozzarella balls, salami, black olives, cucumbers, spinach, red, orange, and yellow peppers and sometimes cherry tomatoes ( the kids like them but I don't!).

Real Bacon Yes!

I would love crumbled real bacon once in a while in a pasta salad. But bacon bits from a jar no thank you.

What are bacon bits?

There's no real crumbled bacon in these bacon-flavored bits. The full ingredient list reads textured soy flour, canola oil, salt, caramel color, natural and artificial flavor, yeast extract, FD&C Red No. 40, natural applewood smoke, disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate

Also love the idea of fresh spinach. However, I wonder how it would hold up if you did not consume the entire salad the first day.

I also like the idea of purple onion for the color as well as taste.

Kim 1231 you have me wanting to make a pasta salad now as it sounds so yummy. I bet your version turns out well with all these great suggestion.

I make a quick and easy one with bow tie pasta. I add Trader Joe's bruschetta and a little balsamic glaze. Top with shredded parmesan.

Bold flavors seem to help, so I like: pepperoni, extra sharp cheddar cheese cubes, broccoli, black olives, small real mozzarella cheese balls or shredded mozzarella, red (purple) onions, sprinkling of Tony Chachere's cajun seasoning, bowtie pasta, and Kraft Zesty Italian dressing.

Pasta Salad is more like Pasta Surprise at my house--it is my favorite no recipe dish. Well, I do the same for lettuce salads as well.

I vary the pasta--everything has been used at some point...

Any kind of veggies--except potatoes-too much starch--My favorites are onions and peppers, olives, green onion, celery, cold canned, drained beans, etc.

Fruit on occasion--chopped apples, halved grapes, raisins, cranberries, etc.

Sometimes cheese, sometimes not... Certain cheeses get a weird texture in certain sauces...

Meats-chicken, bacon, tuna, pepperoni slices, pepperoni stick cut into pieces, boiled eggs, ham cubes occasionally.

I have also added/topped with sunflower seeds or chopped nuts. I usually add those last or top so they don't get soggy.

For moisture, I have used mayo, Italian dressing, Ranch dressing, plain yogurt, strawberry vinaigrette, oil and vinegar mix, or combinations of this...

I am pretty brave with pasta salads.
