I bought a Brother sewing machine from Amazon a few years ago. Basic, but it does the job. Price was excellent.

I recently posted on my town listserv looking for a machine. A friend saw the post and gave me a new one that had been given to her mom, who died recently.

If you have a listserv or other local bulletin board option, you might find something by just asking.

I have a Janome Magnolia that is pretty basic. I'm not sure if they're making them anymore.

I have a Singer that was under $100. It gets the job done, but if I sew for long periods of time like when I was making dozens of masks, it gets hot and needs a break. Itís the second one Iíve had since 1993. Both were Singer. My mom has a metal-cased Singer that is over 50 years old and works great. I have a treadle Singer that still works, and I donít even know how old it is. A metal case one would be my go to if I could find one.

I like Singer, but a couple of my friends like Brother and Janome.
