Happy vent - teacher appreciation day

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Our principal today was great, she’s new in this role this year but was a teacher at our school for 15 years. We are a small k-5th grade school ( one teacher per grade level plus me the self contained special Ed teacher and the resource special ed teacher).

Today she called all staff and students for a surprise assembly at 9:30 and we found retired teachers, our former principal and parent volunteers to watch our kids until lunch . Teachers and aides were given the morning off. She had stations for people to get nails done, chair massages , a full tea with all sort of goodies . Our only rule was that we were not allowed to work in our rooms. . We were to relax and let them take care of everything. It was so nice, as special ed we often get overlooked but she made sure that my kiddos were covered as well.

That's amazing. What a wonderful way to show teachers they're appreciated.

We all love her . She is very supportive of us as a staff. We teach in a rural school with a high poverty rate , we are becoming a trauma informed school and her focus is also making sure we as teachers are practicing self -care and helping to alleviate stress. She has self care fridays , where we can participate in various ways to help with self care. They are a lot of fun.

I’m a newer teacher ( been teaching 5 years total) and have been at this school for only three years and most of the staff are veterans of 15+ years but they are the most welcoming people I have ever met. We as a staff go to each other’s houses for games or wine / beer tastings. We bowl or go to sporting events. They have become a second family . It is a very different atmosphere than where I taught previously.

That sounds amazing, but I honestly think that should be the last day of school, lol. I have way too much to do right now to take a day off.

I'm so glad you found such a great school family. Mine makes all the difference in my life!
