Got a very curt email from the P first thing this morning asking to see me during my planning (which isnít until 2:05). Now I get to have sweaty hands and upset stomach ALL DAY! Normally I have an idea of what Iíve done. 😂 I have no clue this time. I feel like a kid again-uh oh Iím in trouble feeling is the worst! And yes Iím positive itís not a good thing Iím being called in for-after years with this P I know him pretty well.

I am so very sorry. That is the worst feeling especially having to wait all day. Is there a chance that you could stop by during lunch to ask or send an email asking what it's related to?

My friend works in a district where their union took action against vague "See me" emails. With an insane principal at her school, she said they were able to respond with something like "Please indicate the topic(s) of your requested meeting by ____ either in writing or in person. If I don't hear from you by ____, I will assume you no longer need to meet with me and I will not be obligated to attend."

It's bully tactics as far as I can tell. The really good principals I've worked for came to me when they had something difficult to discuss with me and they did it at a time when I'd have some recovery time before I had kids in my class. In my view, this is what a principal will do when their primary concern is student achievement and welfare. The ones who need to make you sweat are all about their own power and authority. At my age, they really can't intimidate me this way but they sure can make me lose respect for them.

I had a phone call like this from the Assistant Superintendent at 3:00 on a Friday!!! Fretted all weekend. I was able to say no to their request.

Any chance your P wants to talk about next years placement?

This kind of situation is so annoying.

Those e-mails are such a power play. I've learned to respond with, "Can you please tell me what this is in regards to so I can bring any pertinent paperwork or documentation? I'd hate to waste your time by not having the appropriate materials". It's helped but it really tans my hide.

I'm so sorry you're such a wreck.

And WHY couldn't he have just EMAILED you that info???? I'm annoyed for you. That's just silly. And, if he really felt it warranted a discussion, the email could have read, "Ms. Smith is moving to 1st next year. Come by at 2 so we can discuss it."

I'm not discounting some of the more insidious reasons PPs have described, but I think sometimes, Ps are just in a hurry and not thinking about how it could come across.

I'm glad it wasn't a big deal. Some people have no clue how much stress they put on us by not communicating clearly! There's no reason why he couldn't have said that over email or said something that let you know it wasn't anything you had done.

So he put you through hours of anxiety for something that could have been communicated easily in the first e-mail. So thoughtless.

Our realtor, who was lovely, would text or call me and leave a message, ďI have to talk to you.Ē WTH?

I read a saying somewhere: Donít tell me you have to talk to me later. I have anxiety. Tell me now.
