Be aware of students getting off the subject matter!

Just a note of caution!
Yesterday I subbed for a 5th grade class and as I was walking around the class room, a female student brought it to my attention that another female classmate sitting next to her didn't know what a virgin meant and asked me to explain it to her. To cover myself, I quickly told both students that we are not discussing anything that is not on the lesson plan and for them to focus on finishing up the assignment that was given to them. They got my message.

I would have handed her a dictionary.

She was already behind in her assignment and time was limited.

I would wager that they both knew exactly the meaning of the word. They were just trying to put you on the spot to see what you would do. You did the right thing. I have had girls tell me very inappropriate things.
It has been very slow where I am. I did see in the news where some university was reporting two thousand swine flue cases.

to not fall for the trap...all too often we are targets of these pranks and most of us see it from a mile away and steer clear of situations like this...

most times for me it's been personal questions like are you married? how many kids do you have? etc......

I look at them and tell them it's none of their business during school hours but if they were to see me on the streets I would be more than happy to tell them(unfortunately, I sub where I live)

You were right to tell them that their conversation was inappropriate... In addition, I probably would have left a note for their teacher...just to cover my butt... you can't be too careful!

This is a good point Smiley makes. You never know what those girls might say was said.
