this will be my first year teaching social studies and my 7th grade curriculum goes from prehistory-renaissance (covering ancient africa, asia, and some europe). i don't have a text book, so i'm having to come up with everything from online resources, which is fine but a little confusing with no true guide. i'm struggling with how to really do all this. the hardest part is finding test-like questions that are above dok1. any ideas on how to do all this? any suggestions are appreciated.

This is what I teach in 6th grade. I'm attaching a copy of my course outline. If you'd like, you can visit my website...rough weekly lesson outlines from last year are still posted under the 6th grade page...
Also try mrdonn.com..that site has links to many other sites on all SS topics.

Mr. Donn is a great resource. You have a lot of material to cover!! I do prehistory-the Fall of Rome.

Definitely map it all out and figure out roughly how long each topic may take. Egypt could last FOREVER if the kids had their say .

As far as test questions what I do is as the kids are taking notes or having a discussion I may say to them, that would be a great question for the test and jot it down. Sometimes the kids come up with the best questions!
