oversized stuffed animals...

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I teach 2nd grade. I keep seeing these big, oversized stuffed animals at Target and toy stores, and I think they are so freaking cute! I thought it would be cozy and cute to put a big stuffed dog or giraffe or something in my classroom library to make the area look a little more kid-friendly. I am wondering if anyone else has these in their classrooms, and does it cause any problems? My biggest worries are that kids will be really distracted with sitting on the carpet during mini-lessons cause they all want to touch/cuddle with the stuffed animal. My room looks so basic right now, and I really want to warm it up with a few simple things.

P.S. my thought is that kids could take turns to cuddle/read with it during reading workshop, so it wouldn't be TOTALLY off limits, I am just worried it might be a distraction at other times of the day...?

and had a few in my room until I ran out of room and had to downsize. Then they had to go. However, they were a lot of fun while they lasted and did not cause a distraction or disturbance.

Retired teacher left one in the room I'm moving in to when she left. It's huge! I wish I lived close enough to bring it to you.

I had a huge bear and the kids loved it. There were never any problems regarding taking turns, BUT the school nurse made me get rid of it because it had the potential to spread lice. We didn't even have a lice problem, but I do see the point, we couldn't use pillows either.

Our school mascot is a panda so every classroom has stuffed panda bears everywhere I had mine sitting on my printer between my computers and put some sun glasses on it. The kids never really bothered it. (1st grade) When I purchased a small panda, they moved it from my desk to the large one because it was it's "baby" but that is all the playing they did with it. (Not even by my request.)

I would love to have stuff like that, but it is so not worth the risk to me.

I have a huge Nemo looking clownfish that goes with my ocean theme. My sister in law won it at 6 flags or a carnival like that. There's another option for finding one!

The only problem with this one is a small hole was made in the seam and now I have little styrofoam balls all over. I haven't gotten to sew it up yet.
