I'm relatively new to this site so I wanted to say hello to all and introduce myself! I'm formerly ILovePreK but I won't be teaching preschool for much longer (so I thought I needed to change my username) - I'm starting student teaching soon and I'm very excited! I look forward to checking this website every day - you are all such a wealth of information, I get fantastic ideas and support from all of you every day so thank you for that! I look forward to using this site as a place to go for advice and understanding!

You sound like you are in a similar place that I was last year. I had taught pre-k for years, but when my hubby got laid off I realized that having a Child Dev degree and teaching pre-school wouldn't get me much financial security! I am so excited to be starting in 3rd grade this year. I was worried about it since i was used to younger kids, but I found I loved the older kids, and during VBS when I did teach the pre-k class, I realized how much I enjoyed the older kids!! Especially when you can have them write in their journals for 20 minutes!

Hope you enjoy your student teaching! I absolutely loved it. My classroom teacher and I had totally different teaching styles. At first I thought, "We have nothing in common." Then I realized, "Wow! We can learn a lot from each other!" Now (years later), it isn't rare for me to quote one of her words-of-wisdom. Our approaches are still as different as night and day, but I am so happy I learned that that is A-OK.

Enjoy your experience! More than 25 years later, I'm still in touch at the holidays with one of the teachers I worked with when I student taught in 1975! I will have a student teacher in the fall, and I'm looking forward to it. Good luck to you in your career path.

Thank you all so much for your kind responses. I'm incredibly excited and can't wait to learn everything I possibly can. Thanks also for all the help you have already given me - I have gotten so many ideas for my pre-school class from this site, it has truly been indispensible to me already in my career!
