Does anyone have any poems by Aileen Fisher? I've been reading about her in a Literacy class and I would really love to read some of her poems. If anyone has some, would you be willing to post them? Thanks so much!

Here are a few that I found online. If you do a Google search you will find some more I'm sure. Are you doing an author study? I would love to hear any ideas you have that go along with her work.

Back to School
Aileen Fisher

When summer smells like apples
and shadows feel cool
and falling leaves make dapples
of color on the pool
and wind is in the maples
and sweaters are the rule
and hazy days spell lazy ways,
it's hard to go to school.

But I go!

Caterpillars
by Aileen Fisher

What do caterpillars do?
Nothing much but chew and chew.
What do caterpillars know?
Nothing much but how to grow.
They just eat what by and by
Will make them be a butterfly,
But that is more than I can do,
However much I chew and chew.

Open House
Aileen Fisher

If I were a tree
I'd want to see
a bird with a song
on a branch of me.

I'd want a quick
little squirrel to run
up and down
and around, for fun.

I'd want the cub
of a bear to call,
and a porcupine, big,
and a tree toad, small.

I'd want a katydid
out of sight
on one of my leaves
to sing at night.

And down by my roots
I'd want a mouse
with six little mouselings
in her house.

Trees
Aileen Fisher

Trees just stand around all day
and sun themselves and rest.

They never walk or run away
and surely that is best.

For otherwise how would a
squirrel or robin find its nest?

The Frog's Lament
Aileen Fisher

'I can't bite
like a dog,'
said the bright
green frog.

'I can't nip,
I can't squirt,
I can't grip,
I can't hurt.

'All I can do
is hop and hide
when enemies come
from far and wide.

'I can't scratch
like a cat.
I'm no match
for a rat.

'I can't stab,
I can't snare,
I can't grab
I can't scare.

'All I can do
my whole life through
is hop,' said the frog,
'and hide from view.'

And that's
what I saw him
up and do.

Spring's the Word
by Aileen Fisher

Spring up, seedlings,
weedlings, clover!
Spring out, leaves,
now winter's over.

Spring up, green things!
There's a reason
Spring's the name
to fit the season.

Wow, this is wonderful! I tried to google her but I guess I'm not using the right search terms. Yes, I'm planning for an author study but I'm not sure if I'll be using her as the author yet. I'll be sure to write down your username and share with you any ideas I come up with! Thanks again!!

I have seen poems by Aileen Fisher everywhere throughout my teaching. She has several illustrated books of poetry out that she authored that may be available at the library. I looked on Amazon and typed in poetry by Aileen Fisher and several books came up. I see her poems in anthologies and the teacher's notes and suggestions that come with Weekly Reader etc. She is a very prolific writer and you should be able to locate them fairly easily.
