Going from middle to high school?

Did any of you teach middle school before you taught high school? I'm an elementary school teacher but I am going to be teaching middle school English next year. My preference is high school (it's what I originally wanted to teach) and I am still trying to get a high school position but it requires an administrator who sees the benefits of hiring a teacher with an elementary school background (degree is elementary and so is my work experience).

Since I have already secured a middle school position, I have considered teaching middle school for a year and then moving up. My question is...Would having middle school experience make me any more desirable to a high school administrator? The certification includes both middle and high school but do administrators see them as the same thing?

Regardless, I'm going to keep trying for a high school position because I really have no desire to teach middle school. I just wanted to know if there would be any incentive to do middle school for a bit...

I went from elementary to middle to high school. I didn't have any trouble transferring to high school with middle school experience, especially since I had worked with the 8th grade some. Here it also depends on the subject. SS and English seem to be able to move up easier than math or science since sometime math and science require a more specific certification.

I'm happy to hear that it wasn't an issue for you. I'm still going to keep trying for a high school but I guess I'll take some comfort in knowing that it's not the end of the world if I teach middle school for a while.

I found it really hard to get into high school without first going through middle school. The transition elementary to middle was way harder than the transition from middle to high school. Good luck.

That middle to high school would really benefit you as well.
