I am so irritated that I have a class of 32 this year!!! I don't even have 32 seats in my room! That is such a large number to manage. What are your numbers like this year? What's your breaking point when it comes to class size?

Arkansas has state laws for class sizes.
My district adheres to that policy.
20 in K
25 in 1, 2, and 3
28 in 4
Not sure beyond that as I'm in a PK-4 building

I teach 2nd and maxed with 25.

My 4th grade has 31 so far, but that will go up.
The other 4th grade has 30.
I have kids sharing desks meant for 1!

Don't hate me, but I only have 16 kids this year. Last year, it was 17.

I have three classes.

I hate large numbers. It makes it so hard to help the kids.

I have 34 this year in fifth grade. This is generally how many we always have.

16 last year and this year. I am in a Catholic school, so our classes can be smaller.

The last 4 years I have had between 17-19. This year I'll have 25. I hate to complain, because I know other people have a lot more other places, but I hate it. Especially since the other grade level has only 1 more kid in the grade but theirs are split up between more teachers.

I've decided I'm not putting 25 desks in my room. Just making sure there's a place for everyone to sit if they have to all at once.

Ours in Maine are similar to Arkansas. I don't think K should even have 20 with all the requirements now. I am in a elem. school with lots of diversity and a fair amount of kids from difficult homes - emotional issues (not always what one thinks about with Maine). 24 kids in grade 2, and that's plenty with the myriad of testing and data collection and the lack of support personnel here.

I'm sorry you have 31. That's way too many.

My sister in California,in a wealthy district, and her class sizes were large -- 28-35!! Sounds very difficult. Almost no time to really work with individual kids.

Where I teach in BC, Canada, there are class size limits.

In K the limit is 22, and from grades 1 to 3, it is 24.

It is a little different in grades 4 to 7. The limit is 30, but the district must maintain a district average of 30 in those grades. What that means is that if there is a grade 7 class in one school with 26 kids, there could potentially be another grade 7 class in another school at 34. However, in practice, this never really happens and grade 4 to 7 classes are pretty much always at 30 or less.

Large class numbers bother me because I feel that it can ultimately be a SAFETY issue, especially in classes that have students with special needs or violent tendencies. I feel that K to 3 classes should be capped at 20, 4 to 6 should be capped at 25 and 7 to 12 should be capped at 30. But my district only has a cap of 18 for Kindergarten. Some of our high school classes are over 40 students!

I have 28 now (second day of school), but I can (and probably will eventually) have up to 32.

32! What a luxury

I have two classes of 35 this year (6th ELA). 6 IEPs in one, with one aide for five and a 1-1 for the 6th. The other class has 2 IEP and 8 504 plan kids.
Then I have two sessions of 6th drama, both with 35 as well.
35 is our class cap, per our contract. It's supposed to go down to 34 next year.

I've typically had 32 to 34. Moved to a new district where there are much more reasonable class sizes.
