Who said, "I love you" first?

Thanks to the time change last weekend, I was up at 5:20 this morning. So here I sit, 2 hours into a Four Wedding marathon because there's nothing else on TV.

At one wedding, they had a little game and asked the couple who said I love you first? So spill it, who said I love you first? You or your SO?

DH said it first on purpose, but I actually said it first by accident. We had barely known each other a few months and he had been at my apartment studying with me (we were in grad school together). When he left, I walked him to the door and said, "Ok, bye - love you see you later." I remember shutting the door and thinking, "Did I just say that?" He noticed, but didn't bring it up until much later - after he'd said it for real. He was a friend first, before we starting dating, so it was just something I say to friends often. Hahaha! Glad it didn't scare him off.

As far as saying I love you I don't remember. I do know he proposed to me by saying "Will you consider marrying me?" 49 years later we laugh about that.

His exact words were, "I've been trying to figure out how you tell someone you love them, because I want to tell you that. I love you." I can still remember that after about 45 years. We were still in high school at the time. A lot of water over the bridge since then.

Awkward is my specialty, so I remember what I said in response to DH.

He said, "I love you."

My response? "That's good because I think I love you, too."

My husband said it first. I knew he felt that way and was wondering when he was going to say it. I probably already felt that way but wanted him to say it first.

I had some stupid time limit in my head about when I would say it. I remembered he said, "I love you and I don't care if you say it back because I know you love me, too." He was right. I know I told him I loved when we were riding on a SF cable car ( we live in the Bay Area) and we both remember that -- 25 years ago.

He did. I'd been engaged before & had all wedding plans made. Previous guy was messing around with someone else. Wedding didn't happen. For awhile I wasn't very trusting. I'm glad I waited & found the most loving guy ever.

He did, which I prefer. I wasn't going to say it first.

I did. If I hadn't, I'd probably still be waiting. (We've been together for 28 years!)

My ( now ) fiance said it first. It was just before i jumped on a train to the airport for a trip overseas. I mumbled "i love you too " and then cried my eyes out (happiness) all the way to the airport.

It was very romantic. Saying goodbye on the train platform.
