I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but a novel I read recently and enjoyed was The Age of Miracles, by Karen Thompson Walker. I would classify it as science fiction and a bit apocalyptic as well. I usually don't care for this type of book, but this one was different. I also believe it's YA, but I think anyone would like it.

It's about a teenage girl living in a typical family, when one day something happens to the rotation of the earth. Days and nights grow longer, and gravity is affected. The book shows how people cope, change, and adapt. I found it quite interesting.

I really liked The Spaceship Next Door and the The Frequency of Aliens (sequel) by Gene Doucette.

The Game is Life by Terry Schott is a 10 book series that is really good reading. It can get a bit confusing after book 2 but it is still really good.

I’m not a huge fan of sci-fi but I also enjoyed “Age of Miracles”

I love “The Girl With the Silver Eyes”. It’s an oldie but a goodie.

The Queen's Thief series. More fantasy than Sci-Fi though.

The following I would all classify as either YA Sci-Fi or a mix of Sci-Fi/Fantasy

The Trials of Morrigan Crow
What came from the Stars-Gary D. Schmitt
Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians
Into the Dark: Alex Carew
The Rithmatist
The Thirteenth Child
Cinder: Book 1 of the Lunar Chronicles
A Beautiful Friendship: Star Kingdom #1

My best recommendation: The Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold. Might be in an omnibus edition called Young Miles. Not necessarily written for young adults, but I'd have no problem recommending it to that age group.
