This board has been such a great resource for me. You've reccomended the dry erase sleeves and the Desk Apprentice before anyone else.
So please share, as I am getting ready for a new school year, what's BEST purchase you've made for your classroom and why?

A visual timer, no question. Also, SitSpots are pretty awesome.

I've never seen those before but just looked them up. How do you use them? I really like them.

Really Good Stuff book bins

I splurged and bought the expensive Really Good Stuff book bins in 3 colors. They were worth every penny. I do flexible seating, so my kids don't have desks. These book bins make it possible. Plus, they're sturdy and still look great after a couple years of use. http://www.reallygoodstuff.com/durab...ders/p/160103/

Also, dry erase sleeves, but you already have those.

This year it's been my laminator.

Also the "really useful boxes" for storage. They stack nicely, come in lots of different sizes, and are super sturdy. They're a little pricey but have been worth every penny!

I have that timer in my amazon cart. Hopefully I'll be able to get it this year!

Plastic nameplate holders that hold 2 sided nametags and pencils. I velcro them to the desks. No more kids picking...nametags last all year!! I got them at Lakeshore, but Really good stuff has them, also.

How do you store the bins? I have similar bins (from the dollar store so probably not too similar) but I can't figure out where to use them.

I use SitSpots to help the kids situate themselves on the floor. I don't like carpet squares, too bulky, they fray, have to put them out, stack 'em up again, blah blah. SitSpots stay right where you put them. You can vacuum over them and they don't damage the carpet. I love them!

I also splurged on the bins mentioned earlier. I only had two casualties last year, and the rest still look great. I use 2 3-shelf metal bookcases to store them. I can fit 6 per shelf so also using the top I can fit an entire class (24) per bookcase. I numbered the front with a paint pen instead of using the slip in face plates that came with them. We can fit a lot in those book boxes!!

My best purchase was a garage sale easel that is made of wood and is much sturdier than anything I had been able to find at a store. It is the perfect height for me to sit in my chair while we do carpet time!

I love my Time Timer! I don't have to do a countdown on every test. The kids can visually see how much time they have left!

If you make lots of booklets, like the AtoZ comprehension booklets a booklet/saddle stapler is great. It makes the job so much easier.

For my fifth grade class, the best purchases I have made are my rug and easel. I use those daily and I can't imagine life without them!

I would say the book bins (Really Good Stuff) and the kids keep them in their desks. My own small refrigerator is a great investment.
