I'm seriously thinking of doing a DV project for a class set if Chrome books or IPads. I would need 30. Has anyone successfully done this? What was the cost? Did you do Chrome books or iPads? What do you do if one breaks?

I've done a bunch of projects, but I think this expensive so I'll take any tips, etc.

TIA.

I have only done smaller projects, for 3 at a time. The cost of 3 is around $650 (for the cheaper ones.) I just keep reposting the same project over and over once one gets funded. Since July, I have gotten 20 chrome books through Donors Choose that way. I think that the enormous cost of 30 at one time would be prohibitive on DC (as large projects like that seem like they are out of reach and donors don't always contribute to them.) BUT, there are always match programs out there that may come in and flash fund. It doesn't hurt to have one up at all times....maybe even have a big one and a little one.

3 at a time is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. How long do you wait between posting?

I think it totally depends on how active your school is on social media when it comes to sharing these things. 3 at a time sounds like a great start. I do NOT recommend using Amazon as the vendor, though, because once I finally raised enough money for mine, they were sold out of them.

Here is a link to my DC for a dozen of them. It took a lot of sharing on my part, my school's part, and even a local news facebook page as well. I ended up getting 14 of them because the originals were sold out and they bought me a cheaper chrome book, so there was extra money.

I would immediately repost as soon as I got a project funded. Right now, if you put one up, Google is matching any donations that are made. (until the funds run out.) I have gotten 3 through that in the past week and I immediately turned around and put another request up.

Funny, I just posted about this! I only asked for 2, but wondering if I should ask for 3 now lol I also already have Chromebooks that can be signed out of a cart down the hall but I'm not as saavy with them I guess and want iPads. Curious to see what you end up doing!

Mrs. Wok, that's exactly my issue. Not only do we need to sign them out, but the district is being very restrictive about apps and it's ticking me off. I would prefer iPads but I think I can get more Chromebooks with the same amount of money.

I would do smaller chunks at a time like others suggested. One thing I want to throw out there. Are you allowed to connect your own electronics to the school's wifi? One school I worked only allowed district property to connect so ysing mayerials from D.C. on the wifi ould make it district property and therefore they could do anything they wanted with them.
