I have read Wonder, Masterpiece, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Bud Not Buddy, and The WHipping Boy to my 5th grade class. I need a new book to read. Any suggestions from my fellow 5th grade teachers?

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar
Holes by Louis Sachar
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library (my students really like it, though I am not in love with it, to be honest)

City of Ember and Among the Hidden
Plus both have sequels that the students could continue with on their own

I'm going to give additional votes to Among the Hidden or Gregor the Overlander- 2 of my favorites of all time!

All great read alouds that my students have loved for years. Each is timeless with great moral/value discussions.

When you are reading your novels, what activities do you do with them? I do summaries, questions, and vocab with each chapter, but I would like other ideas. Thanks.

bryanswife,
if your class is 1:1 you could try designing a hyperdoc- see the link below for a template for making a hyperdoc:

That is pretty amazing. I am not 1:1 but maybe I will be next year. So, when they answer, do they create another document for the answers? Thanks.

Bryanswife,
Sorry I didn't see your question until today. As far as creating another document, that depends on how you want it.
If you assign the document through Google classroom and make a copy for each student, then they will have their own copy.
If you assign it through email, you will want them to click on "file" and then "make a copy" and then gave them rename the document so when they share it with you you know whose it is.
It takes some trial and error to start, but hyperdocs are awesome!
