Painting bulletin boards

Has anyone ever painted their bulletin boards? Our boards are extremely large and a dull beige color. The room I am moving into this year also has student graffiti on the board (in small areas, but I can see it). I was thinking of painting them black. I am not sure what type of paint to use on them. I've heard the paint will chip off if not painted correctly. Any ideas?

I painted mine last year with acrylic paint and have had no problems with it. It is small, though. Maybe 3' x 2.5'.

If you don't want to paint it, you could also use fabric to cover it.

I've painted boards with acrylic wall paint. I used a roller. It went on easily and I've had no issues with chipping.

Another teacher on my team did this. Dark colors worked great, especially blue. It looked so good! But yellow and green looked terrible and didn't cover it. I think black is a good idea and will cover well. I don't know what kind of paint she used but I do think color choice matters.
